IPCPR 2014: Daniel Marshall

While the music was not the loudest—that honor once again went to Drew Estate—Daniel Marshall was the only company with a live rapper in its booth at the 2014 IPCPR convention and trade show—we think. The California-based humidor-maker featured Philadelphia-based rapper Mellothekid, who has made songs about the company’s 24kt Golden Torpedo. As far as new products go, two new humidor collections were on display, as well as extensions to the company’s line of Plasencia-made cigars.

Two new sizes. For fans of the larger ring gauge, the Gigante (6 x 60) has been added. There’s also the DM2 Red Label “Papa Joe” Panatela (6 x 38, $7.70), which pays tribute to a friend who helped Marshall get the rights to produce humidors for Alfred Dunhill Ltd. three decades ago.

In order to create this humidor, a firearm was scanned and then reprinted and is placed at the top of the humidor. Marshall told us one of his fiends in the movie prop business allowed him to use the technology to create what is an admittedly very realistic look. There were only 20 units produced for the original line, but Marshall has predictably had interest in other firearms being used.

It’s hard to imagine the gold humidor on display last year ever being overshadowed, but this might do it. While it certainly is not for everyone, the humidor is incredibly well done. These are produced on a made-to-order basis.
