Villiger’s big story this year is that they’re celebrating their 125 year anniversary. Not only have they expanded their booth this year, but they’ve expanded their lines as well. The square footage has increased, as well as their meeting and sitting area. The same general style persists, though this year instead of black with red accents the entire booth is a very suave black-on-black theme. With the color change they’ve also updated their signage to reflect the color theme and increased the size of their logo significantly.

Villiger 125

Villiger 125
The big release for Villiger, is of course their 125th anniversary cigar. Featuring a 2009 Ecuadorian Seco Habano wrapper and Seco Habano Jalapa x 2 for the binders, the 125 is rounded out with Viso Habano from Jalapa and Esteli for the filler. Roy MacLaren described the profile as meaty without being overpowering, earthy, and an overall medium bodied cigar. The company will introduce another 125th anniversary cigar for Europe made at the company’s Brazilian factory.

Villiger Talanga

Villiger Talanga and Colorado
The Talanga and Colorado are being introduced for sale to the European market. This is a big step for MacLaren and co. given the size of Villiger’s European operations.

Villiger Selecto
Introduced in the unreleased sampler, the Selecto is now available for sale by itself. It comes in two sizes, a Corona Gorda (5 x 46) and a Lancero (7 x 40).

I have been smoking cigars since 2005 and reviewing them as a hobby since 2010. Initially, I started out small with a 50-count humidor and only smoking one or two cigars a month. Not knowing anybody else that smoked cigars, it was only an occasional hobby that I took part in. In March of 2010, I joined Nublive and Cigar Asylum, connecting me with many people who also shared an interest in cigars. Reading what they had to say about brands I had never heard of, I quickly immersed myself in the boutique brands of the industry and it was then that cigars transformed from a hobby into a passion.
