InterTabac 2021 will not take place due to the ongoing coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.
The event—the world’s largest tobacco trade show—was scheduled to take place Sept. 16-18, 2021 in Dortmund, Germany. Westfalenhallen Unternehmensgruppe—the company that owns both the trade show and the event space that it takes in—announced today that it is canceling the event after talking with exhibitors and sponsors.
“Working closely with the industry associations and partner associations, the conceptual sponsors, the advisory board and the exhibitors of the twin fairs, it has become clear that the vast majority is against holding the events this September, as previously announced,” said Sabine Loos, managing director for Westfalenhallen Unternehmensgruppe, in a statement.
InterTabac is the largest tobacco trade show in the world spanning the full tobacco products spectrum. That includes cigarettes, e-cigarettes/vaping products, machine-made and premium cigars, pipes, shisa, smokeless and other tobacco-related products. There’s also a connected InterSupply show that focuses on the manufacturing equipment needed for tobacco production. Visitors are able to attend both events which take place throughout the Westfalenhallen facility.
In 2019, 13,800 people attended the event which had over 500 exhibitors from 47 countries according to InterTabac.
Last year, the event was canceled but then Westfalenhallen Unternehmensgruppe announced an alternative event called ITShub, which was supposed to be a hybrid in-person and virtual event. Ultimately, that event was also canceled as infections began to increase as the event neared.
This time Westfalenhallen Unternehmensgruppe did not announce an alternative event, but just confirmed the dates for next year’s trade fair: InterTabac 2022 is scheduled for Sept. 15-17, 2022.
As of today, three other cigar trade shows—PCA Convention & Trade Show, TAA Meeting & Convention, and TPE 2021—are all planning for in-person events, though two of them have already pushed back their events due the pandemic.
