In Dec. 2018, the Hermosa Beach City Council passed an ordinance that restricted the sale of flavored tobacco products to stores where only persons at least 21-years-old were allowed to enter. It was scheduled to go into effect on June 1, but it won’t get the opportunity to as this week the city passed a complete ban on the sale of all flavored tobacco products, regardless of where it is sold.
Several council members cited the proliferation of e-cigarettes and vaping devices as the inspiration for the change, calling it an epidemic amongst children in the city.
Like the original restriction, the complete ban will go into effect on June 1.
Hermosa Beach is home to approximately 20,000 residents. It is located just over 20 miles southwest of Los Angeles.
