Gurkha Cigars has a new director of marketing, and it’s Shanda Lee.

Lee was most recently with J.C. Newman Cigar Co. as the company’s vp of marketing before departing in November 2016. In that role, Lee was part of the product development team and responsible for developing the company’s marketing strategy. According to a statement issued by Gurkha, she brings more than 25 years of marketing experience to the position.

“Shanda is very knowledgeable and brings a wonderful energy to Gurkha,” said Kaizad Hansotia, ceo of Gurkha Cigars. “I have assembled a strategic and strong management team that also includes national sales director Juan Lopez and operations director Carlos Llaca. Together, leveraging their years of experience and strengths this team will be able to take Gurkha to the next level.”

Lee will be responsible for the marketing and brand management of Gurkha Cigars, a role that includes the active management of the company’s advertising, public relations, social media and marketing campaigns.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
