Gurkha is the latest company to get into the lounge exclusive cigar segment, as today the company announced a pair of new cigars that will be available at the eight Gurkha-branded lounges, as well as select other retailers.

The two cigars both measure 7 x 52 and use a Pennsylvania broadleaf binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic and the Estelí and Condega regions of Nicaragua. One version comes with a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, while the other features an Ecuadorian habano wrapper. Each is priced at $10 per cigar, or $120 for a box of 12, with production handled by American Caribbean Cigars in Nicaragua. Production is being capped at 5,000 boxes for a total of 60,000 cigars, with it split evenly between the two versions.

“This cigar is special because this is the cigar that we have always smoked with retailers and friends when they come visit our headquarters,” said Kaizad Hansotia, president of Gurkha Cigars, via a press release. “Many of our customers like a great maduro and I am particular to the habano so we decided to make both to satisfy several palettes.”

The eight Gurkha-branded lounges that will carry the cigar are:

  • Havana 1928 Cigars — Miami, Fla.
  • Joseph’s Coffee and Cigars — Richmond, Texas
  • Man Cave Cigar Lounge — Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
  • Monte’s — Albuquerque, N.M.
  • Slow Burn — Catonsville, Md.
  • The Cigar Depot — Douglasville, Ga.
  • The Cigar Room — Madison, Ala.
  • Thunderbird Trading Post — Tacoma, Wash.

While it’s called the Gurkha Lounge Exclusive, it will also be available to Gurkha retailers who carry at least 25 facings of Gurkha products and are at least 25 miles away from one of the Gurkha lounges.

Shipping of the cigars has already begun.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
