Ultra high-end cigars have become the buzzword of the cigar industry lately, and Gurkha Cigar Group is upping the ante once again as the company has told halfwheel of plans for a new cigar that will raise the bar to a new high.
The Gurkha Maharaja is slated to be released just prior to the holiday season this year, and when it does, will come with a single stick MSRP of $2,000. The company is releasing just 100 humidors of ten cigars for this project.
“The Limited Edition Maharaja will set a new precedent for premium tobacco; we’re excited to be able to pair these rare leaves in such a magnificent and flavorful way,” says Kaizad Hansotia, founder and CEO of Gurkha Cigars, via a press release.
While the company is not releasing complete details or photos of the cigar yet, the press release said the Maharaja features a maduro wrapper with Dominican binder and fillers that creates “a smooth and sweet taste on the lips,” with a medium-bodied profile geared towards “true cigar connoisseurs.”
The Maharaja shatters the company’s previous high price mark of $1,250 per cigar set by Gurkha’s His Majesty’s Reserve, which features cigars infused with an entire bottle of Louis XIII cognac.
“It’s been a long time since our first release of the HMR in 1996, and I’ve been looking for a special project ever since,” Hansotia added. “The Maharaja is a home run in this aspect. I couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve accomplished with this cigar.”
