Guantanamera Cigar Co. has filed a lawsuit over Royal Agio’s new line: Balmoral Serie Signaturas Dueto.

Specifically, Guantanamera is arguing that Royal Agio’s application for a trademark for Dueto is in conflict with the company’s own trademark for the word Duo. Guantanamera’s trademark was registered in August 2009.

The lawsuit goes onto further allege that the Agio opted to use the name specifically because of the trademark issue. It cites an interview given by Boris Wintermans, ceo of Royal Agio, to Cigar Snob (29:00), where Wintermans said “And the Dueto is for, well, a duo.”

Jaime Flórez-Estrada, evp of marketing for Royal Agio, declined to comment.

Guantanamera is no stranger to trademark lawsuits. The company has been fighting Habanos S.A. over the Guantanamera since 2009.
