Just about two years ago, Gran Habano released an ambitious project called the Colección de Elegancia, a 50-count sampler featuring its signature Corojo No. 5 in five sizes, three of which were new to the line.

This year, the company is giving the Corojo No. 5 Maduro the same treatment, though it features sizes that are already part of the line.

At the upcoming IPCPR Convention & Trade Show, the company will release the Colección de Elegancia Corojo No. 5 Maduro sampler, which features the strongest blend in the Gran Habano portfolio. It’s a blend that uses a noticeably red, sun grown Nicaraguan maduro wrapper that the company says produces rich, full-bodied flavors of dark chocolate and hints of spice. Underneath that is a habano binder and fillers from Nicaragua and Costa Rica. Production is being handled at the company’s G.R. Tabacaleras Unidas S.A. factory in Honduras.

Inside the sampler are 50 cigars, split amongst five sizes with 10 cigars offered in each size:

  • Gran Habano Corojo No. 5 Maduro Lunch Break (4 1/2 x 40)
  • Gran Habano Corojo No. 5 Maduro Petite Corona 5 ½ x 42
  • Gran Habano Corojo No. 5 Maduro Corona 6 x 44
  • Gran Habano Corojo No. 5 Maduro Lancero 7 ½ x 38
  • Gran Habano Corojo No. 5 Maduro Figurado #200 5 x 48

The Gran Habano Colección de Elegancia Corojo No. 5 Maduro comes with a suggested retail price of $356. It will ship after the trade show, though a specific date has not yet been announced. A limited amount are being produced, though the company did not provide a specific number.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
