General Cigar Trims Portfolio, Over 250 SKUs Discontinued

General Cigar Co. has begun informing retailers that the company will no longer be offering more than 250 SKUs in 2014 as items are removed for various reasons. Some products, like the Macanudo Vintage, which saw all three of its lines removed, are limited editions. Others, like the Don Tomas Cameroon, Excalibur Legend and Partagas Serie S were not.

There are also less-known products being removed, such as Astral, Lord Beaconsfield and Los Statos. Then there are reductions to lines including staple products like Cohiba, Hoyo de Monterrey, La Gloria Cubana, Macanudo, Partagas and Punch.

Many of the some 263 SKUs are still available for purchase at the moment, but the company will no longer be making them, so once its current supply runs out, there will be no more.

The housekeeping is quite possibly the largest single occurrence in the history of the premium cigar business and has a noticeable effect on the General Cigar Co. price list. Copies obtained by halfwheel show a reduction from 13 pages to 10 pages after the removal.
