According to multiple retailers, General Cigar Co. is selling its last remaining Partagas 150 and Partagas 160 boxes.

The Partagas 150 Signature Series was released in 1995 when the company was still headed by Edgar Cullman Sr. It was highlighted by an 18-year-old Cameroon wrapper, a Mexican binder and Dominican and Mexican fillers. As the name implies, it was made to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Partagas brand.

Interestingly, the wrapper came from Tabacalera, a Spanish tobacco monopoly that would go on to become Altadis, now General’s chief rival. At the time, Tabacalera and General were believed to be considering a merger and the larger Tabacalera agreed to send Cameroon wrapper from the 1977 crop that had been aging at Tabacalera’s facilities in Madrid.

A total of 1 million cigars were made and General has released limited stock over the last decade.

Six of the eight Partagas 150 sizes are now offered for sale:

  • Partagas 150 Signature Series A (6 3/4 x 43) — Boxes of 25 and 50
  • Partagas 150 Signature Series B (6 1/2 x 47) — Boxes of 25 and 50
  • Partagas 150 Signature Series C (5 1/2 x 49) — Boxes of 100
  • Partagas 150 Signature Series AA (7 1/2 x 49) — Boxes of 20 and 100
  • Partagas 150 Signature Series D (5 x 38) — Boxes of 25
  • Partagas 150 Signature Series Figurado — Boxes of 25

The only two sizes not available are the Don Ramon (7 x 52) and Robusto (4 1/2 x 49). In addition, there are a limited number of Partagas 150 tower humidors available.

A decade after the 150, General released the Partagas 160 Signature Series using the same 1977 vintage Cameroon wrapper, which was then 28-years-old, this time made with Dominican piloto cubano and Mexican San Andrés fillers.

There’s substantially more stock available of the Partagas 160 and all five sizes are offered at this time.

  • Partagas 160 Signature Series Robusto Cifuentes Especial (7 x 48) — Boxes of 10
  • Partagas 160 Signature Series Robusto Crystal 160 (6 3/4 x 43) — Boxes of 10
  • Partagas 160 Signature Series Robusto (5 x 50) — Boxes of 25
  • Partagas 160 Signature Series Robusto Major (5 x 52) — Boxes of 25
  • Partagas 160 Signature Series Robusto Minor (4 1/2 x 48) — Boxes of 25

Last year, General promoted that it was once again offering the Robusto Major and Robusto Minor sizes, but now all sizes are listed for sale.

While General has previously offered retailers the last remaining stock of both series, this seems rather different. Emails obtained by halfwheel show the phrase “final release” and the company is offering almost all SKUs of both sizes as well as informing retailers how much inventory remains.

Multiple emails sent to General Cigar Co. were not returned.
