On May 3, Freud Cigar Co. will be launching the first in a new series of cigars that will come out each year around Sigmund Freud’s birthday, May 6.

According to The Tobacconist of Greenwich, a Connecticut retailer, the new cigar measures 7 1/2 x 50 and will be made at Tabacalera Diaz Cabrera, the factory owned by Eladio Diaz that has produced other lines for Freud Cigar Co. The blend of the cigar is not being disclosed, other than that the company says it uses seven distinct tobaccos and five different fillers.

Images posted by Tobacconist of Greenwich show that production is limited to 3,500 boxes of 10 cigars, with each box hand-numbered. The Tobacconist of Greenwich says it will host a launch event for the cigar at JHouse of Greenwich in Riverside, Conn. on May 3. Diaz will be in attendance at the event.

The cigar is priced at $43 and $430 for a box of 10 cigars. The Tobacconist of Greenwich has opened online sales of the cigar, which will begin shipping on May 4.

Update (April 26, 2023) — Freud Cigar Co. issued a press release and images of the cigars today, and the story has been updated accordingly. This story was originally published on April 4.
