Freud Cigar Co. has announced plans for AlterEgo, its second regular production cigar, and the second cigar that it is producing with Eladio Díaz.

According to an unconfirmed report by Cigar Aficionado, the blend will use a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, an Indonesian Sumatra binder, and a Dominican filler that includes pelo de oro, corojo, Havana 92 and piloto cubano leaves. The company claims that the cigars have been aging at Tabacalera Díaz Cabrera since February 2022.

The report indicates that it will be offered in three sizes:

  • Freud AlterEgo Toro (6 x 52) — $28 (Box of 10, $280)
  • Freud AlterEgo Robusto (5 x 50) — $26 (Box of 10, $260)
  • Freud AlterEgo Lonsdale (6 1/2 x 43) — $25 (Box of 10, $250)

Freud Cigar Co. previously worked with Díaz on Agape, a limited edition cigar. This is the second regular production line for Freud Cigar Co., joining SuperEgo, which is made by Tabacalera William Ventura.

The report says that the cigars will debut at the 2023 Total Product Expo (TPE) in late February, while they are expected to ship in March.

Luis Torres of Freud Cigar Co. confirmed the accuracy of the report, though said he was not able to discuss the release due to an exclusivity agreement with Cigar Aficionado.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
