The final La Flor Dominicana The Golden Bull NFT auction closed today with a winning bid of nearly $100,000.

La Flor Dominicana sold seven NFTs via the UREEQA platform, offered on the Ethereum blockchain. The NFTs look like the La Flor Dominicana Andalusian Bull Toritos, a 6 1/4 x 41 lonsdale version of the Andalusian Bull, which is now being referred to as The Golden Bull as part of the NFT project.

In total, the combined sale prices of the seven auctions was $614,779:

The owners of the NFTs will be able to purchase 70 of The Golden Bull cigars per month, actual cigars not more NFTs. If the token is sold, the new owner will also be able to purchase The Golden Bull cigars for as long as they own the token. The Andalusian Bull blend uses an Ecuadorian corojo wrapper over a Dominican binder and Dominican fillers that are grown at Estancia La Flor de Palma. It is not sold in stores, but La Flor Dominicana has used it for a variety of non-retail projects in recent years.

In addition, each auction winner will receive a Gold Bullion Humidor, a 50-count humidor that will be personalized for each auction winner.

The first Andalusian Bull The Golden NFT auction received 26 bids, some of which came from cigar retailers. A number of retailers ended up winning the lots, which means it’s likely consumers will have a chance to purchase The Golden Bull cigars.

“Just want to thank everyone that participated, whether or not they ended up winning, it was amazing to see so many people pushing and breaking records with their bids,” said Tony Gomez of La Flor Dominicana. “We all made cigar history together 🤘 And much love to our crazy family on discord who poured insane amounts of support into the project.”

This is not the first time La Flor Dominicana has created a membership program to distribute this specific cigar. La Flor Dominicana has done a similar thing with its Fleur D’Or Club, a club created for people who purchased one of the company’s high-end cutters, which started at $16,000 when they were announced. Owners of the cutters are part of the Fleur D’Or Club, which entitles them to purchase special releases, including the Andalusian Bull Toritos.

This is not the first time a cigar company has created an NFT project, United Cigars announced a project in 2021 centered around the Atabey Black, which it hinted as a future cigar.

Update (Aug. 25, 2022) — The final NFT was sold today and this post has been updated and added a statement from Tony Gomez. This story was originally published on Aug. 14, 2022.

Update (Sept. 5, 2022) — La Flor Dominicana has changed the name of the project, dropping “The Golden Bull” and calling it The Golden NFT, while the cigar is called Andalusian Bull — The Golden. This is due to a trademark claim by Racine & Laramie, a tobacco and cigar retailer in San Diego, Calif., which holds the trademark on “Golden Bull” for a line of cigars it produces.
