Felipe Gregorio has announced that the second installment in its Power line will be ready for the 2014 IPCPR Convention and Trade Show that is coming up in July.

The 2014 edition of Power is made from Pelo de Oro tobacco from seeds of Cuban ancestry that has been grown in the Cordillera Central of Costa Rica. The company says that by being grown at 3,000 feet, it has been able to avoid the use of pesticides on the sun grown tobacco. The wrapper leaf is a rosado that dates back to 2007, with what is described as a “rooster tail habano” used for the binder and “ancestral Cuban Havana seed” as the filler. The cigar was blended by Philip G. Wynne, owner of Felipe Gregorio, and is being made at the Tres Tierras factory in Costa Rica.

All of the tobacco goes through triple fermentation, with the cigars undergoing three rounds of inspection and getting a triple cap, part of what the company calls its “333 rule.”

There will be 1,000 25-count boxes of each of the five sizes produced: a 5 x 52 Special Robusto (SRP $12.00); 4 1/2 x 58 Torbusto ($13.00); 5 1/2 x 55 Triple R ($14.00); 6 1/4 x 52 No. II Torpedo ($14.00) and a 6 x 62 dubbed Full Power that has an SRP of $16.00.

Once those are gone, the Felipe Gregorio Power line will not return until 2021.

The Felipe Gregorio Power 2014 is scheduled to begin shipping in August.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
