Espinosa has begun shipping the La Zona 10 Year Anniversary, a limited edition cigar created in celebration of the factory that makes a good portion of Espinosa’s portfolio.

It is a 6 x 52 toro that uses a Brazilian escuro alto wrapper, which is a higher priming of the type of leaf that is used on Espinosa’s Laranja line. The binder and filler are both Nicaraguan, with the filler including pelo de oro tobacco, a flavorful but hard-to-grow varietal. Héctor Alfonso, director of operations for Espinosa Premium Cigars, calls the La Zona 10 Year Anniversary a full flavored cigar, but one that is not full strength.

“Everything about this cigar is a tribute, from the cigar blend to the box design and the band,” said Alfonso, who called the cigars “throwbacks to when the company first started out.”

Pricing is set at $13 per cigar, and the cigars come packed in 30-count boxes that retail for $390. Production is limited to just 300 boxes, making for a total run of 9,000 cigars.

Espinosa Premium Cigars and the La Zona Cigar Factory launched just weeks apart, and have had a working relationship since their respective openings. Espinosa Premium Cigars is also celebrating its 10th anniversary with the Espinosa 10 Years Anniversary, which was released in mid-September.

The La Zona 10 Year Anniversary was unveiled at the 2022 PCA Convention & Trade Show in July. While most of the company’s new products from the trade show have now shipped to stores, the newest installment in the company’s Las 6 Provincias line is still awaiting its release. Alfonso told halfwheel that the Las 6 Provincias CMW is looking like it will ship later this month, but a specific date has not yet been set.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
