El Mago Cigars will be showing off the company’s first 6 x 60 vitola at this month’s Rocky Mountain Cigar Festival.
Disco is made with an Ecuadorian habano oscuro wrapper covering a criollo binder grown in the Condega region of Nicaragua and a filler blend made entirely of Nicaraguan tobacco. As is the case with all of El Mago’s cigars, the Disco is being made at the MGE Cigars Factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.
The MSRP is set at $14 per cigar and it will come packaged in individual round tubes with 10 cigars in each box. In an email, Nick Fusco, founder of El Mago Cigars, told halfwheel that the name of the cigar was chosen to commemorate the impact that disco had on Miami culture.
“The reason for naming this blend Disco is because when my grandparents moved to Miami, going to a disco was very popular,” said Fusco. “The disco also became more iconic Miami integrating it into their nightlife culture. You can refer to that scene in Scarface where Al Pacino goes to the disco in Miami.”
Fusco launched El Mago in 2o22 to honor his grandparents, Maria and Gonzalo Torre, who died in the collapse of Champlain Towers South in Surfside, Fla. The company’s debut lines are inspired by Maria and Gonzalo. For example, Pepe was Gonzalo’s nickname and Místico, Spanish for mystical, references the magic between Gonzalo and Maria.
According to Fusco, Disco will be shown off at the 2024 Rocky Mountain Cigar Festival on Aug. 24 before shipping to stores starting on Sept. 1.
