In the summer of 2012, E.P. Carrillo took out the tape measure and pushed the large-format ring gauge envelope by way of a new, aptly named line called INCH that debuted with three vitolas all over 60 ring gauge, including one that measured exactly one inch in diameter, i.e. 64 ring gauge.

After getting several line extensions and a Short Run release, this year, the cigar is getting its first Edición Limitada: a 6 1/8 x 64 vitola that uses a Connecticut habano wrapper grown in the U.S. over a Nicaraguan binder and filler. The company is producing 2,000 boxes of 10 cigars, making a total run of 20,000 cigars.

The cigar will come priced with an MSRP of $15 and expected to begin shipping in September.

“A vision from my son and the creative side of my daughter along with a selection of aged tobaccos accumulated over the years allowed me to create this commemorative blend for our flagship line, the Inch,” said Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Jr. in a press release. “The Limitada is years of thought as to what blend gets me closer to mastering big ring gauge blending. I think both big ring gauge lovers and non-big ring gauge smokers alike will enjoy this special blend.”

While the cigar comes bearing a band indicating that it’s a 2019 release, there aren’t plans at the moment to make an annual INCH Limitada according to Lissette Perez-Carrillo.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
