Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust Increasing Prices for 2019

Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust has announced price increases for three of its lines due to an increase in tobacco costs.

Effective June 24, the company’s Mi Querida line is increasing from 1-12 percent per SKU, about 7 percent on average for the SKUs that are increasing. Todas Las Días will increase 4 percent per SKU with the exception of the Half Churchill size which will go up 5 percent. Finally, Umbagog will increase 4 percent for the Toro Toro and Short & Fat sizes and 6 percent for all other vitolas.

Sobremesa, Sin Compromiso and Muestra de Saka do not have a price increase.

“The bulk of this increase is because of actual material costs, the worst of which has been in Connecticut Broadleaf,” said Steve Saka, Dunbarton’s founder, in a letter to retailers. “As most of you are realizing, there is a tremendous shortage of broadleaf in the market with many companies having to dramatically limit or outright cease production of their broadleaf blends. Others have been forced to ‘cook’ or adulterate subpar leaf to fulfill demand.”

Saka did warn that proposed Nicaraguan tax increases might force the company to adjust prices later in the year.
