A pair of sizes in Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust’s Umbagog line are going away, as Steve Saka has announced that he stopped production of the Short & Fat and Churchill vitolas earlier this year.

Umbagog debuted in early 2017, getting its name from Saka’s favorite fishing lake. The blend uses a Nicaraguan binder and filler underneath a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper that had been designated as too ugly to be used on the Mi Querida line, which is a more premium offering. As such, Umbagog was positioned as a budget-friendly cigar, coming in paper-wrapped 10-count bundles with pricing in the $7 range when the line debuted.

The move will bring the Umbagog line to four vitolas:

  • Umbagog Corona Gorda (6 x 48)
  • Umbagog Robusto Plus (5 x 52)
  • Umbagog Toro Toro (6 x 52)
  • Umbagog Gordo Gordo (6 x 56)

While Saka announced that two vitolas are going away, he also announced that he will be adding a new vitola to the line in 2023.

Umbagog is produced at Nicaraguan American Cigars S.A. (NACSA) in Estelí, Nicaragua.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
