Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust Adding Sobremesa Torpedo Format Ahead of November Release

Steve Saka’s first release under his new Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust is getting closer, but not without one change.

Saka has announced that the Sobremesa Belicoso Largo (6 x 52) will not be part of the initial release, replaced by the Torpedo Tiempo (6 x 54) instead.

“I did not like the large format “Belicoso Largo” (6×52) after it aged out,” said Saka on Facebook. “Something about the shape and flavor combo that was not perfect imo once it was allowed resting time – in short, it needs work and even though it is a huge hit to the wallet, I am scrapping this vitola.”

Interestingly, he later said that he has not “given up on” the Belicoso Largo, saying that new molds would be needed to get leaf placement where he wanted.

In addition, Saka indicated that orders are expected to ship on Nov. 1, 2015, although the Torpedo Tiempo will ship in December. He previously told halfwheel that Nicaragua’s traditional rainy season would likely push the release of Sobremesa back a bit because he didn’t want the cigars to be overly wet.

Pricing for the Torpedo Tiempo will be the same as the Belicoso Largo, $13 per cigar. The other five sizes of Sobremesa are: Corona Grande (5 1/4 x 44, $9.95), Cervantes Fino (6 1/4 x 46, $11.45), Robusto Largo (5 1/4 x 52), El Americano (6 x 52, $12.45), and Gran Imperiales (7 x 54, $13.45). Each size comes in boxes of 25.

Sobremesa is being produced at Fabrica de Tabacos Joya de Nicaragua S.A. It uses a La Meca Ecuador habano Grade 1 dark rosado wrapper, Mexican Matacapan Negro de temporal over five different filler tobaccos: Nicaraguan GK Condega C-SG seco, Nicaraguan Pueblo Nuevo criollo viso, Nicaraguan La Joya Estelí C-98 viso, Nicaraguan ASP Estelí hybrid ligero and broadleaf ligero from Lancaster County in Pennsylvania.

It is the first release from Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust, the new company from the former Drew Estate executive.
