Dr. Stephen Hahn is the new commissioner of the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA).

Earlier today, Hahn was confirmed by the Senate by a vote of 72-18. He is now the fourth person to lead the agency in the last year.

Hahn is a cancer specialist who is currently the chief medical executive of MD Anderson, the famous cancer hospital in Houston. He previously worked for the National Cancer Institute and the University of Pennsylvania.

His thoughts on cigars and the regulation of cigars are not known. In recent weeks, various members of the cigar industry have privately expressed optimism about getting relief from cigar regulation through the White House, which Hahn reports, potentially by the end of the calendar year.

I am an editor and co-founder of halfwheel.com/Rueda Media, LLC. I previously co-founded and published TheCigarFeed, one of the two predecessors of halfwheel. I have written about the cigar industry for more than a decade, covering everything from product launches to regulation to M&A. In addition, I handle a lot of the behind-the-scenes stuff here at halfwheel. I enjoy playing tennis, watching boxing, falling asleep to the Le Mans 24, wearing sweatshirts year-round and eating gyros. echte liebe.
