After teasing them in April, Crowned Heads has released the details of the four cigars that will be the Las Calaveras Edición Limitada 2020, which is slated for a July release.

Those Las Calaveras 2020 vitolas will be:

  • Las Calaveras Edición Limitada 2020 LC48 (5 1/2 x 48) — $10.95 (Box of 24, $262.80)
  • Las Calaveras Edición Limitada 2020 LC52 (5 x 52) — $11.95 (Box of 24, $286.80)
  • Las Calaveras Edición Limitada 2020 LC56 (6 x 56) — $12.95 (Box of 24, $310.80)
  • Las Calaveras Edición Limitada 2020 Torpedo (6 1/8 x 52) — $12.49 (Sampler of 4, $49.95)

This is the seventh release of the Las Calaveras line, which debuted in 2014 as a tribute to those who have died in the previous year, with the intention to be a celebration of life and memories made, as opposed to a mournful symbol of sadness and death, according to the company. Each year, the bands of the cigar feature the initials of four individuals who passed away since the prior release.

As has been the case for some time, there will be three vitolas released in the line’s standard 24-count boxes and one size, the torpedo, sold only in a four-count sampler that include one of each cigar. One notable change for 2020 is that the production is being scaled down to just 1,000 boxes of each size, down from 1,700 boxes of each size in 2019. There will also be just 500 of the samplers produced, down from 2,500 in 2019.

Jon Huber, Crowned Heads co-founder, called this year a “hard reset, of sorts,” in a press release, noting that the return to the production numbers of the original release should ensure that this year’s release will be “even more in demand.”

The blend uses an Ecuadorian habano oscuro wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan fillers. Huber said that this blend is new and wasn’t an attempt at recreating a previous Las Calaveras blend.

As has been the case previously, this years’ Las Calaveras will be produced at My Father Cigars S.A. in Estelí, Nicaragua.

This story was originally published on April 20, 2020. A press release with pricing and a release date was released on June 11 and those details have been added to the story.
