The state of Connecticut is one step closer to banning smoking and vaping on state park beaches.

Wednesday night, the Connecticut Senate passed S.B. 752 by a vote of 39-3 with three abstaining. The bill now moves to the House for approval.

If passed, it would ban smoking and vaping at any beach located at state park in Connecticut. Violators would be subject to a warning of the first offense and a potential fine for any additional offenses. The fine amount would be set by the Commissioner of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The bill would go into effective July 1, 2019 if it is passed by the House and signed into law by the governor.
