Connecticut Rejects Tobacco Purchasing Age Increase, Cigar Tax Cap Hike

Tobacco lovers in Connecticut received two wins in the state legislature.

Last week, the text of a budget proposal was updated, removing an increase to the state’s cigar tax cap. Earlier versions of the bill included a measure that would increase the tax cap on cigars from 50 cents to $1.50.

This morning, the Senate to the Committee on Finance, Revenue and Bonding refused to advance S.B. 164, which would have raised the minimum age to purchase tobacco from 18 to 21.
