For the first time ever, a Cohiba will have a Connecticut-seed wrapper.

General Cigar Co. has formally announced that its new Cohiba Connecticut will be heading to stores in March. As we reported earlier this year, the Connecticut shade wrapper will come from Ecuador over a Mexican San Andrés binder and a four-varietal filler blend: Brazilian mata fina, Dominican olor, Dominican piloto cubano and tobacco from Jalapa, Nicaragua.

It’s offered in four sizes.

  • Cohiba Connecticut Gigante (6 x 60) — $22.99 (Boxes of 20, $459.80)
  • Cohiba Connecticut Robusto (5 1/2 x 52) — $20.99 (Boxes of 20, $419.80)
  • Cohiba Connecticut Robusto Crystal Tubes (5 x 50) — $20.99 (Boxes of 10, $209.90)
  • Cohiba Connecticut Toro (6 1/2 x 52) — $21.99 (Boxes of 20, $439.80)

“Our agronomists partnered with an independent grower in Ecuador’s Los Rios province to produce a silky and lustrous Ecuadoran Connecticut Shade wrapper,” said Sean Williams, Cohiba’s brand ambassador, in a press release. “Unlike cloth-covered fields that shield the tobacco from the blistering sun in Connecticut, this special wrapper is grown beside Ecuador’s Vinces River and beneath the thick, natural cloud cover that blankets the region. The volcanic soil yielded a wrapper that was intentionally developed for its aesthetic qualities, with veins that are barely perceptible. Looks aside, the wrapper is ideal for blending, as it maximizes the filler and binder leaves.”

Like almost every other one of General Cigar Co.’s Cohiba lines, it will be made at General Cigar Dominicana in the Dominican Republic.
