Claudio Sgroi, the former president and master blender of Mombacho Cigars S.A., has announced the launch of CST Consulting, LLC, a new firm providing a range of consulting services to the premium tobacco industry, and a venture that brings him back to his roots of being a consultant.

“This is a significant step in my career,” said Sgroi in a press release, “since through CST Consulting, LLC, I will be able to share my expertise and my dreams in the tobacco industry.”

Sgroi said that the services his firm will provide will run the gamut of seed to ash, including tobacco crops management, fermentation and pre-industry, tobacco supply chain setup and operations, blending, production and quality assurance, international logistics, distribution and fulfillment, design, and marketing and sales strategies. He noted that he is working to “help new talents to become major players in the industry, and to offer new services in the this industry.”

The move comes just a few weeks after Sgroi announced his departure from Mombacho Cigars S.A., and as Sgroi celebrates his 20th year in the premium cigar business, having started his career at Davidoff working with Hendrik Kelner. He joined Mombacho Cigars S.A. in 2011 as a consultant, rising to the role of president and master blender. During his time with Mombacho Cigars S.A., one of his most notable accomplishments was the move to Casa Favilli, a historical building that is now the company’s factory. He also developed a number of new lines, implemented a quality assurance system, reworked the company’s warehousing and logistics operations, solidified relationships with growers, and helped bring the brand into more than 12 countries via a sales and distribution network.

In 2020, Sgroi was elected as president of the Nicaragua Tobacco Chamber (CNT), a position he still holds.

CST Consulting, LLC, is based in Miami and has announced several clients, including United Tabac, Julián Sued & Cía, FAEC, PSX Ventures GMBH, Lyon Cigars, Camino Cigars, Tabacalera del Oriente, and Italian Cigar Group S.R.L.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
