Chogüí is back.

The Chogüí Dos77 Corojo is now on sale. This marks a return for the brand, which debuted in 2014 but disappeared roughly four years ago. Victor Nicolás, the company’s founder, says that was due to both FDA regulations, as well as the choice to focus on other “work-related opportunities.”

For its return, Chogüí is introducing a new blend, Dos77 Corojo. While the blend is new, the name—Dos77—is not new. Chogüí once had a regular production line called Dos77, but Nicolás says he wasn’t able to find the same Dominican wrapper he once used for that cigar. So instead, he spent roughly a year creating a new blend, Dos77 Corojo.

While it is new, many of the details remain the same as the old Chogüí. First, the Dos77 Corojo is a Dominican puro, using a sun grown corojo wrapper over a mixture of fillers that include piloto mejorado tobacco from the media tiempo priming. Like before, the tobacco is coming from Leo Reyes of Flor de Los Reyes. Second, it will launch in a 5 1/2 x 50 vitola which the company calls rogusto, a combination of the words robusto and gusto; this too is similar to the original Dos77. Finally, the cigars are being rolled at Manufactura Rivas, the Tamboril-based factory owned by Francisco “Chico” Rivas. Chogüí’s previous cigars were made by Rivas, though the company oftentimes referred to the factory as “Top Secret Nest.”

It will have an MSRP of $12 per cigar.

“We started working mid 2021 on a relaunch of the brand, from updating our design identity, relaunching with a new line and working on bring back eventually our old offerings,” said Nicolás in a press release. “We take great pride in bringing out 100% Dominican cigars to market and are confident we are offering what is unique taste and  smoke profile for the aficionados.”

One major change for Chogüí is that the cigars are being sold in the U.S. by Venture 1492, a new company from Kyle Gellis of Warped that offers distribution as well as branding services to other cigar companies. So far, Chogüí is the only known client of Venture 1492.

Nicolás says that there will be an additional size added to the line soon.
