From 2023-2026, Casdagli has said that it will announce two new releases for its Brothers of the Sabre Series, created to honor military generals who were known for their love of tobacco. Ahead of next week’s InterTabac 2024 trade fair in Dortmund, Germany, the company has announced the two new additions for 2024.

Epicurist is a new blend created to honor Gen. Antoine Charles Louis de Lasalle of France, who was often seen smoking a pipe and who is widely regarded as one of that country’s bravest cavalry commanders. The new cigar was blended by Hendrik Kelner Jr. and is made up of an Ecuadorian wrapper covering a Dominican binder grown in Yamasá and Dominican filler tobaccos.

The Vater honors Austrian general Field Marshal Johann Radetzky von Radetz—known as “Vater” by his troops—who was one of the masterminds behind the Coalition’s victory over Napoleon at the Battle of Leipzig. The blend is made up of a wrapper grown in Ecuador, a Dominican binder and filler tobaccos grown in the Dominican Republic, the U.S. and Zimbabwe.

Both blends will be available in the same two vitolas packaged in 20-count boxes: a 4 x 52 petit robusto and a 6 1/4 x 47 figurado priced at $13.70 and $21 each, respectively. The cigars are being produced at the Kelner Boutique Factory located in the Dominican Republic and will begin shipping to retailers worldwide in mid-October.

“With my love of both Napoleonic history and the premium tobacco world this ongoing project is a cause of great joy for me, from researching these great historical personalities and their love of tobacco to the selection of special vitolas and blends to honour them,” said Jeremy Casdagli, founder of Casdagli, in a press release.

Formerly named The Napoleonic Collection, Casdagli’s Brothers of the Sabre Series debuted during the 2023 PCA Convention & Trade Show with two different blends: the Forrader and the Brave. The Forrader was named after Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher while the Brave gets its name from Marshal Ney, a French general who was called “The Bravest of the Brave” by Napoleon.

There will be four more blends in Brothers of the Sabre Series, the company intends to release two of them in 2025 and the final two in 2026.

I have been smoking cigars for over eight years. A documentary wedding photographer by trade, I spent seven years as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. I started the cigar blog SmokingStogie in 2008 after realizing that there was a need for a cigar blog with better photographs and more in-depth information about each release. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars. I am a co-founder of halfwheel and now serve as an editor for halfwheel.
