Last month, Cañon City, Colo. eyed banning all smoking at the Downtown Business Area. Now, a less aggressive, yet wider smoking ban is heading towards passing.

Yesterday, the Cañon City Council voted in favor of an ordinance that would ban smoking within 15 feet of any entrance to a business. The new rule would put Cañon City in line with the Colorado Clean Air Act, something that Cañon City, as a home rule municipality, originally voted to not enforce.

According to KOAA 5, the Cañon City Council will take up the measure for a second reading in two weeks, where it should face a final vote.

Cañon City is located in Fremont County on the Arkansas River in the central part of the state, about 35 miles southwest of Colorado Springs. It has a population around 15,000.
