A bill seeking to ban flavored tobacco in California is moving forward.

Last week, S.B. 38 was passed 4-2 by the California Senate Appropriations Committee meaning it will now head to a vote in the full Senate. If passed, the bill would ban all flavor tobacco products with a few exceptions. Tobacco products that are flavored with menthol would be exempt, as would hookah tobacco and any product that has a patent prior issued to Jan. 1, 2000.

Currently, there are 18 spnsors of the bill, all Democrats.

If passed, California would be the first state in the United States.to ban flavored tobacco products.
