For its latest collaboration, the online cigar community Cigar Dojo has collaborated with Caldwell Cigar Co. to create a limited edition cigar called Far Eastern Standard.

The cigar is a 7 x 40 lancero that uses a Nicaraguan habano colorado shade wrapper, Indonesian binder and a filler blend of Dominican piloto and Nicaraguan habano. The cigar is rolled by Tabacalera William Ventura in the Dominican Republic, with 300 10-count bundles produced. It will come priced at $9 per cigar or $89.95 for a bundle.

“I was very excited to take part in this collaboration with Dojo,” said Robert Caldwell, owner of Caldwell Cigar Co., via a press release. “We wanted to put together a product that would really be top-notch. This cigar is a cigar that I have been smoking almost every day since we first blended it. It really is my perfect cigar. It’s medium-bodied, rich, creamy, smooth and balanced.”

Of note, the cigars were packaged directly following the rolling process, as it was felt that the freshly rolled cigars performed so well during the testing process that the decision was made to allow cigar hobbyists the same experience. In a statement, the companies say this adds a slight punch to the otherwise medium-bodied profile of the cigar, which is described as offering flavors of hazelnut, white pepper, heavy cream, caramel, and vanilla-mint throughout the finish.

“We have been hoping to do a lancero for a long time and Robert nailed the perfect blend combination with this Far Eastern Standard,” said Eric Guttormson, owner of Cigar Dojo, via a press release.

The name is a combination of Cigar Dojo’s penchant for Asian culture and Caldwell’s progressive character. It pays tribute to the original Eastern Standard, which featured the likeness of a bearded fisherman named Hans Nielsen Lahkso. In this case, he has been replaced by a hand-drawn likeness of Japan’s Emperor Meiji, also known as Meiji the Great, who ruled the country from 1867 to 1912 and is credited with transforming the country into a world power.

The cigar will go on sale Fri., Nov. 8 at 12 noon ET via Smoke Inn Cigars. The store’s flagship Boynton Beach location will also be hosting a pre-release party at on Nov. 6.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
