Today we will be taking a look at another cigar from the current Studio Tobac sampler that is making its way to consumers through the Studio Tobac tour, the Cain FF Torpedo! A few weeks back I decided I was going to review one cigar each week from the Studio Tobac Tour Sampler and as you know life can get busy and with all the new releases coming out lately it’s hard to keep promises. Picking up from where I left off I have come to the Cain FF Torpedo. You might be asking yourself “What makes this so different from the Cain F line?” Well where the Cain F cigars are comprised of Ligero long-filler from Jalapa, Condega and Estelí, Nicaragua, this Cain FF has an increased amount of Ligero from Estelí, which is known for its strength and overall full-bodied character giving the cigar an even more nicotine and full-bodied kick than the Cain F. At this point the only way you will get your hands on this cigar is to attend a Studio Tobac event and purchase a box of Studio Tobac cigars to receive your sampler. There is a chance this cigar will see full production at some point but right now it is uncertain…

Here are some shots of the sampler and its contents pictured from top to bottom are…

Visually, this cigar is quite pleasing it has a creamy milk chocolate wrapper with a slight oily sheen to it giving it a smooth look and feel. The cigar is packed tight with a seamless wrap and minimal veins. The pre light aroma is spicy with notes of espresso and dark chocolate, a nice bit of cedar on the foot as well. The pre light draw is cedary with an earthy character and a touch of pepper.

Starting off in the First Third I get that nice Cain F type spice and pepper, flavors start off a bit dry and bitter with notes of espresso, dark chocolate and leather. The finish is long and smooth and the smoke output is impressive. The draw starts off perfect with just a tug of resistance.

Coming into the Second Third the cigar really falls into place and the smoothness on the finish from the first third really takes hold on the front now. Flavor profile is very earthy with an oak like wood note as well as a ton of espresso, dark chocolate and leather. There is a nice full bodied creaminess to the smoke, not quite chewy but real thick. I start to get a sense of the nicotine and power this thing possesses but the overall smoothness of it camouflages it. There is a touch of spice and pepper on the tongue and it shows real power through the nose but not overpowering.

Finishing up in the Final Third I get a shift in flavors with the cigar turning ultra smooth with an earthy, wood at the front but it finishes with a smooth, rich mocha and coffee type combination. It reminds me of a desert type of coffee. The dark chocolate starts to increase towards the end as the cigar heats up and with it brings an increase in the pepper and spice. Definitely feeling the nicotine at this point but not completely overpowering to the point where I get the shakes or anything. I nub it with ease…

Final Notes:

  • I definitely found this to be a touch stronger than the Cain F but not to the point where I saw them as two completely different cigars, this Cain FF was definitely similar to the Cain F. The Flavor profile itself was a touch richer with a little bit more to offer as far as complexity which I’m sure is tough to accomplish with the added Estelí Ligero. It’s definitely not just a more powerful Cain F; it actually offers a bit more on the palate.
  • The Construction was top notch the whole way, not one single issue with the burn or the draw.
  • For info on the Current Studio Tobac tour and tour dates please check out their website here
  • Final Smoking time was 1 hour 10 mins.

The Bottom Line: I thoroughly enjoyed this cigar, while in the past I have not been a huge fan of the Cain Habano and Maduro I have always liked the Cain F and this cigar was definitely in that ballpark but with a touch of increased strength and a bit more to offer on the flavor palate and overall complexity. Make no mistake this cigar has some balls but I think the average smoker will be able to take it in stride given the great flavors and smoothness of it.

Final Score: 90
