Bolívar Soberanos EL 2018 to Launch This Month
Another of the 2018 Edición Limitada releases from Habanos S.A. is getting ready for its global launch, as the Bolívar Soberanos Edición Limitada is slated to be released during an event hosted by Pacific Cigar Co. on Nov. 19 and 20. The cigar will then be available for retailers around the world to sell on Nov. 21.
Details of the event have not yet been publicly announced by Habanos S.A. or Pacific Cigar Co., though several sources familiar with the plans confirmed them to halfwheel. All that is known at this point is that the launch event is being held in Asia, the territory for which Pacific Cigar Co. is the exclusive distributor of Habanos S.A. products. E-mails sent to both companies have not yet been answered.
The Bolívar Soberanos EL 2018 measures 5 1/2 inches (140mm) long with a 54 ring gauge, a vitola known as the Duke that debuted in 2009 with another Edición Limitada release, the Romeo y Julieta Dukes. The size has since been used for the Partagás Serie E No.2, a 2011 release, as well as two 2016 Edición Regionals: the La Gloria Cubana Platinum Edition for the Netherlands and the Ramón Allones Hexagone for France.
The cigars come in 10-count sliding lid boxes, and while pricing can vary widely from country to country, they are currently offered for £269 ($353.25) in the United Kingdom as part of a pre-sale listing.
This is the third time that the Bolívar marca has been used for an Edición Limitada release, joining the Petit Belicosos from 2009 and the Super Coronas from 2014.
Habanos S.A.’s 2018 Edición Limitada series also includes the as-yet unreleased H.Upmann Propios, a corona extra which measures 4 7/10 x 46 and is packaged in 25-count boxes; and the Romeo y Julieta Tacos, a 6 3/5 x 49 grand corona that comes in 25-count boxes and which launched in September.
The Edición Limitada series was introduced in 2000, with each release using a vitola not found in the regular production offerings in its brand. Additionally, beginning in 2007, all of the tobacco used in the releases has been aged for a minimum of two years. Prior to 2007, only the wrapper leaf came with that aging statement.
