The Battleground Cameroon, which has been off the market for the past seven years, will be returning to the market via a limited batch of aged cigars that the company will release at the 2022 PCA Convention & Trade Show in July.

The company said that it found a batch of 7,000 cigars in the Charles Fairmorn Factory that had gone overlooked for the past seven years, after a project the cigars were produced for did not move forward. They use the same blend as the original release, with an African-grown Cameroon wrapper, a Connecticut broadleaf binder and Dominican fillers. It will be available in four very similar sizes, which will be be priced around $10 per cigar and offered in 20-count bundles and boxes:

  • Battleground Cameroon 5 x 56 — Bundle of 20, $178; Box of 20, $198
  • Battleground Cameroon 5 3/4 x 56 — Bundle of 20, $198; Box of 20, $218
  • Battleground Cameroon 6 x 56 — Bundle of 20, $198; Box of 20, $218
  • Battleground Cameroon 6 1/2 x 56 — Bundle of 20, $220; Box of 20, $240

The first three sizes are parejos, while the 6 1/2 x 56 vitola is a figurado. Victoria Michalek of Battleground Cigars told halfwheel that the split of the 7,000 cigars is fairly even among the four sizes, though noted that the 6 1/2 x 56 and 5 3/4 x 56 are more limited than the other two sizes. As for why the cigars are so similar in size, Michalek said that the company was testing various lengths to see which would have worked best for the abandoned project.

The packaging and bands will incorporate the line’s original artwork, with the company’s theme of featuring military generals from U.S. history used across the line, though it will get a different color palette to unify and separate them from the rest of the lineup.

Michalek said the cigars will begin shipping to retailers shortly after the PCA Convention & Trade Show.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
