Just before the end of 2024, a small number of stores received a box of a new size of the OpusX 25 blend.

Formally, the cigar is named Fuente Fuente OpusX La Familia X to the 25th Power, or perhaps La Familia X25 for short. Informally, it will be known as the OpusX 25 Perfecto. The cigar itself was not completely out of the blue; Arturo Fuente had it on display at the 2024 PCA Convention & Trade Show last March, though provided no details about its release.

Stores that were shipped the box of OpusX La Familia X to the 25th Power were invoiced for cigars and the box, which the company considers a humidor, separately. The cigars have an MSRP of $58, while the box is $500. Combined, the 20 cigars and box have an MSRP of $1,660 or effectively $83 per cigar. With the cigars inside, the entire package weighs nearly 17 pounds.

The OpusX 25 blend debuted in November 2021, offered first in a 7 x 50 Churchill vitola that was only available by purchasing one of two Elie Bleu humidors. The less expensive of the two was $9,250 and came with 25 cigars, there was a larger humidor that came with 144 cigars and was priced at $70,000. Since then, the cigar has also been sold in the company’s The Impossible Collection samplers.

While the blend has never been formally disclosed, it is believed to be a variation of OpusX, which means that it is made entirely of Dominican tobaccos, likely from the company’s Chateau de la Fuente farm in Caribe.

A box of OpusX La Familia X to the 25th Power comes with 20 cigars. Eight of the cigars are displayed at the top of the box, there are 12 more cigars on the bottom row.

Each cigar is packaged in a metal coffin that features some of Arturo Fuente’s branding. The most unique part is how the coffin opens. While most cigar coffins are tubes that have a cap that is removed on one end, this coffin features a flip-top lid.

Furthermore, there’s a piece of metal that is attached to the lid. When the coffin is opened, the piece of metal elevates the top part of the cigar.

Also included with each box is a key. Carlos “Carlito” Fuente Jr. said that later this year, the company will reveal more information about the purpose of the key.

It is believed that the La Familia X to the 25th Power went out to a very small percentage of the company’s American retailers. A larger percentage of stores received two of its OpusX ForbiddenX cigars that were created for Dubai Duty-Free.

Those cigars are:

  • Fuente Fuente OpusX Frobidden X Dubai Exclusivo Duty Free Red 52 (5 x 52) — $30.50 (Box of 15, $457.50)
  • Fuente Fuente OpusX Frobidden X Dubai Exclusivo Duty Free Red 56 (5 3/4 x 56) — $34.95 (Box of 15, $524.25)

These cigars are different from the green-colored OpusX 2020 cigars that were also sent to American retailers as part of a December holiday shipment from Arturo Fuente. Previously, both series of cigars were only available in the Middle East. Fuente Jr. has said that the shipments of these Dubai exclusive cigars to American retailers is likely a one-time thing.

Update — The original version of this story indicated the box has 18 cigars, it is 20.
