Announcement: New Contest Rules

Just a brief announcement about a few changes to our contest rules.

You now have seven days from the time the winner(s) of the contest is announced to claim your prize. If an email has not been received at [email protected] by the beginning of the eighth day, we will consider the prize unclaimed and we will promptly donate the winnings to Cigars For Warriors. In the past, the site’s policy regarding contest was to give winners 72 hours to claim a prize, but we rarely actually enforced it, allowing at least one person to claim a prize almost a year after the contest was announced. 

We have kept the winnings of previous contests in our Dallas office in the event of someone claiming it late, but you’d be shocked at just how many prizes go unclaimed. Furthermore, we’ve got quite a few cigars that are just sitting in a humidor, waiting for a home. At the end of the year, we will pack up what we still have at the office and send it to the charity as well, where the cigars will find the most deserving of homes.

In the words of my fellow editor Brooks Whittington, “(It’s something) we should have done a long time ago.” 

Given that we will now be enforcing this policy, we will put an expiration time alongside each announcement so it is very clear when the winners have until. Please remember, just because entries to a contest close at a certain time, it does not mean the winners will be announced immediately. Normally, it takes a few days, but some times other things get in the way.

Secondly, going forward if you win a contest, but produce a different active e-mail account, your prize will be forfeited. We do not allow for the use of multiple accounts on the website and if your are caught using more than one accounts, we reserve the right to disqualify you from the competition and ban the accounts and associated IP addresses. Obviously, this will be handled on a case-by-case basis, but the policy is now going to be enforced.

We have long been advocates of giving cigars to those serving. Whether it be in organized manners or simply handing a fiver to someone returning for Thanksgiving, giving cigars to those serving is something that consistently brings joy to all those involved, including introducing a “policy” like this. If you win a prize and would like it donated to Cigars For Warriors, please contact us and tell us to do so. We’ll still send you some halfwheel stickers and make sure the cigars get to the charity.
