Monday night, the Ann Arbor City Council will have a first reading of a proposed smoking ban. It is expected that the proposed law will ban smoking at city parks, bus stops, city buildings and potentially in front of businesses. Given existing laws, much of the enforcement and scope will likely be decided by the Park Advisory Committee if the bill goes into effect.

The current proposal will likely carry a $50 fine for violators.

Ann Arbor is located less than 40 miles outside of Detroit and is home to the University of Michigan.
