Two years ago, shortly before the new FDA regulations went into effect, Iconic Leaf showed off nine new lines each with 14 vitolas.

What the company did was no different than many cigar companies, who imported a plethora of new lines and sizes into the market to avoid a pre-approval process that would go into effect once the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) began regulating cigars in August 2016. These cigars were imported and then sold at only a few retailers–or sometimes just one—simply to get around regulations.

The one key difference was that Iconic Leaf did this quite publicly. The company said over the next decade, it would pick one of these lines to be “featured” each year, i.e. introduced into the market fully.

This year, that line will be the Recluse Amadeus Los Cabos.

The blend is listed differently as it was described in 2016. It keeps a Mexican San Andrés oscuro wrapper, the binder is now disclosed as Sumatra and the fillers are Dominican seco, viso and ligero as well as Nicaraguan criollo 98.

Previously the fillers were described as Dominican and Pennsylvania.
