This year, the VegaFina brand is releasing two different cigars to commemorate the Year of the Tiger, which is the Chinese Zodiac calendar animal for the upcoming lunar new year.
One cigar will be sold in international markets, measuring 6 5/8 x 52; the other cigar will be offered in the U.S., it measures 6 1/8 x 52. Both cigars are parejos, meaning they are rolled in a traditional cylindrical shape. In addition, both versions of the Year of the Tiger 2022 are being made at Tabacalera de García in La Romana, Dominican Republic and incorporate an Ecuadorian habano wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua.
The U.S. version has an MSRP of $10.95 and is limited to 500 boxes of 16 cigars.
Like many Chinese Zodiac calendar-themed cigars, the Year of the Tiger 2022 uses red and gold color schemes—colors that are associated with prosperity and fortune in Chinese culture—and the number eight, a lucky number in Chinese culture. The cigars are packaged in two rows of eight. It’s not entirely apparent in these pictures and tough to see without being able to see the box at specific angles, but it is made to look like a pagoda, which is an Asian tiered tower with multiple eaves.
Davidoff, Maya Selva and Plasencia 1865 have also announced releases for the Year of the Tiger, the animal for the upcoming Chinese New Year, which will last From Feb. 1, 2022-Jan. 21, 2023.
While Altadis U.S.A. will begin shipping the U.S. version of the VegaFina Year of the Tiger 2022 on Feb. 1, the international versions appear to already be available in some markets.
