Alsack Labels, a Dominican-based supplier of boxes and labels to numerous cigar companies, suffered a significant fire on Oct. 3 that will impact several brands’ ability to package their cigars.

Alsack supplies boxes and labels to several cigar companies, including PDR Cigars, Hiram & Solomon, and Sanj Patel’s SP1014 line, among others. Abe Flores of PDR Cigars told halfwheel that Alsack produces 95 percent of his boxes, and that the fire will affect his ability to send out cigars in boxes for the foreseeable future. Patel told halfwheel that the fire will have impacts on some of his lines as well.

Additionally, the second floor of Alsack’s building was used for tobacco storage for cigar companies in the area. Several sources told halfwheel that it appears that the tobacco in the building at the time of the first was a total or near-total loss.

Alsack Labels is located on the northeastern edge of Santiago de los Caballeros in the D’Clase Corporation Free Zone.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, the G-League's Valley Suns, and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
