A Facebook group protesting Alec Bradley’ Black Market Filthy Hooligan has gotten the attention of some in the Irish community. “Say NO to Alec Bradley and JR Cigars Anti-Irish Bigotry,” a group started by John Howley, targets not only Alec Bradley, but JR Cigars, a completely separate business.

Howley contacted JR Cigars over marketing materials for the cigar, seen below, and got a reply that was unsatisfying.

“When I sent JR an email objecting to the slanderous ethnic stereotype in their ad, they replied that everyone has a different ‘sense of humor’ and ‘you can’t win with everyone all of the time,’” wrote Howley.

The group is small, 84 members at the time of this article, but Ed Shevlin told Irish Central he will picket stores, presumably JR Cigars.

Gianni Brunetti of Alec Bradley told halfwheel, “We respect everyone’s right to have an opinion.”

Alec Bradley introduced the Black Market Filthy Hooligan in 2013. The 2014 version of the cigar is expected to begin shipping the week of Feb. 17. The green candela cigar features clovers on its green box and is released shortly before St. Patrick’s Day.
