At last weekend’s Big Smoke Meets WhiskyFest, Alec Bradley announced an upcoming line called the Alec Bradley Double Broadleaf.
As the name implies, the release will use a broadleaf wrapper and a broadleaf binder. Interestingly, the company says that it purchased broadleaf seeds and planted them in Honduras, meaning this will use Honduran broadleaf instead of broadleaf which is typically grown in Connecticut or less commonly in Pennsylvania. According to a report from Cigar Aficionado, the release will use fillers from Honduras and Nicaragua and the cigar is made at Tabacos de Oriente in Honduras.
“Alec, Bradley and I wanted to create a cigar spotlighting the beautiful Broadleaf wrapper we grew,” said Alan Rubin, founder of Alec Bradley, in a press release. “As we blended though, we all craved more of that bold, rich flavor that Broadleaf imparts, so we doubled-down and added a Broadleaf binder leaf to the blend- which also led to the name: Double Broadleaf.”
An Alec Bradley spokesperson confirmed the release to halfwheel and said a formal announcement should come later in the week.
There will be five sizes offered on debut:
- Alec Bradley Double Broadleaf Chunk (4 x 60) — $10.50 (Box of 24, $252)
- Alec Bradley Double Broadleaf Robusto (5 x 50) — $9.85 (Box of 24, $236.40)
- Alec Bradley Double Broadleaf Toro (6 x 52) — $11.50 (Box of 24, $276)
- Alec Bradley Double Broadleaf Gordo (6 x 60) — $12.75 (Box of 24, $306)
- Alec Bradley Double Broadleaf Gran Corona (7 x 46) — $11 (Box of 24, $264)
The 2022 PCA Convention & Trade Show takes place July 9-12 in Las Vegas. Alec Bradley has at least one more new release for the trade show, which the company says it is not announcing until the show opens. A ship date for the Double Broadleaf has not been announced.
