Canadian fans of Alec Bradley’s Black Market line have a size to call their own, as the company has announced and released a new vitola that is exclusive to the country.
The company has been tight-lipped with details about the cigar as multiple emails from halfwheel requesting specifics about it have gone unanswered, yet at least one retailer has posted it for sale with a single stick price of CAD $8.95. The cigar measures in at 4 1/4 inches in length with a 60 ring gauge.
Like the rest of the line, it uses a Nicaraguan wrapper, Sumatra binder and filler from Panama and Honduras, and is being sold in 22-count boxes. The boxes look identical to those sold in the United States, but they bear a sticker on the front that denotes they are “Exclusively Canadian.”
The Black Market line is made at Tabacos de Oriente in Danli, Honduras and made its debut at the 2011 IPCPR trade show.
Update (April 2, 2015) — A representative from Alec Bradley told halfwheel that the MSRP on the Black Market Chunk is CAD $12.73, and that 10,000 cigars have been produced. The cigar was created at the request of the Bondi family, who distributes Alec Bradley in Canada, in an attempt to create a cigar similar to the Black Market Punk, a 4 1/2 x 42 vitola released in March 2013, that would “satisfy Canadian consumers in need of a ‘short and fat cigar to enjoy during the harsh Canadian winters.'”
