The Alabama House of Representatives will once again take up a statewide smoking ban passed by the Alabama Senate. On Tuesday, the state’s upper body passed a smoking ban 21 to 8.

Modifications were made to S.B. 168, Sen. Bill Holtzclaw, R-Madison. Private clubs were to the list of businesses exempted, which already include tobacco stores and bars.

The bill was introduced by Sen. Vivian Figures, D-Mobile. Smoking bans sponsored by Figures have passed the Senate in 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012, none however have passed the House of Representatives.
