Sen. Vivian Figures, D-Mobile, dreams of a statewide smoking ban has once again died in the Alabama House of Representatives. The House Health Committee voted down the bill 4-7, yet another failure in Figures’s attempts to pass the smoking ban.

While S.B. 168 passed the Senate, exemptions for private clubs, tobacco stores and bars led the American Cancer Society to drop its support of the bill, a kiss of death to a bill that had little chance of surviving the Alabama House.

Figures has proposed similar legislation in the 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012 sessions, none of which made it past the House.
