Aging Room will be releasing a new cigar next month, as the company has announced Pura Cepa, a name that means pure bred in Spanish.

The new line is a Nicaraguan puro using tobacco from each of the country’s main growing regions, Ometepe, Jalapa, Condega and Estelí. It will be released in three sizes, each presented in 20-count boxes:

  • Aging Room Small Batch Puro Cepa Rondo (5 x 50)
  • Aging Room Small Batch Puro Cepa Mezzo (6 x 54)
  • Aging Room Small Batch Puro Cepa Grande (6 1/2 x 56)

A press release from Altadis U.S.A. stated that the retail prices will be from $12.50 to $13.50 per cigar, with shipping to retail beginning in May 2018.  It is being made by Plasencia Cigars S.A. and distributed by Altadis U.S.A., which has distributed Boutique Blends’ portfolio since May 2017.

Rafael Nodal has not yet returned an email sent seeking details about the new line or confirming the accuracy of the report.

Update (May 9, 2018) — Altadis U.S.A. released images and a press release about this cigar. Additionally, the name has been updated to Pura Cepa; it had originally been listed as Puro Cepa.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
