A couple weeks ago EO Brands (makers of the 601, Cubao & Murcielago labels) sold a 50% stake to Rocky Patel. Within the short press release, there was mentions of aims at bringing the popular 601 label down to the $2-$3 price range. That didn’t go over well. Perhaps that’s an understatement. It went over terribly. It forced Eddie Ortega to have to announce that the Pepin-blends weren’t changing, rather just packaging and introduction of new wrappers.

As everyone should know by now, we didn’t just drop our pricing on all the brands, but we are also re-designing the packaging on the 601 and will be launched at the 2010 IPCPR in New Orleans. Just the packaging guys..ooopss and gals, just the packaging. Absolutely 100% the blends will remain the same, and Pepin continues to manufacture the cigars regardless of what you may have heard through the grape-vines.

Here is a sneak preview of the new rings;

The objective will be to make each of the 601 lines; Red, Green and Blue have its own individual character and appearance as opposed to just being grouped as 601.

PS. We’re not printing yet, we welcome your opinions.

The obvious question is what happened to the 601 Black? A moderator on the EO forums confirmed the 601 Black wouldn’t be moving on.

If you haven’t had a chance to join the new forum – I highly suggest it. Seems like a great site and EO is really putting a lot into it.
