262 Cigars’ owner Madison Money is celebrating the fifth anniversary of his acquisition of the brand with a new limited edition called The Nines.

The line has a blend that uses an Ecuadorian habano wrapper, a Nicaraguan double binder, and fillers that come from Nicaragua’s Jalapa and Ometepe regions, as well as from the Dominican Republic.  It is being offered in two sizes, both of which get a closed foot and pigtail cap:

  • 262 Cigars The Nines Robusto (5 x 50) — $13 (Box of 20, $260)
  • 262 Cigars The Nines Toro (6 x 52) — $15 (Box of 20, $300)

Money noted that the color of the wrapper leaf will vary a bit between the two sizes, with the toros more of a rosado shade and the robustos more of an oscuro. The cigars are made by Eradio Pichardo’s TacaNicsa factory, with production limited to 140 boxes of the toro and 122 boxes of the robusto, a total of 262 boxes and 5,240 cigars.

“The Nines is somewhat inspired by Suit & Tie, with the same ideology in mind,” Money told halfwheel, making reference to the cigar that celebrated 262 Cigars’ fifth anniversary in 2015. That cigar was released by 262 Cigars’ founder and previous owner, Clint Aaron, who sold the brand to Money and his father in June 2019.

“When I celebrate something or get ready to do anything ceremonious, I rock a suit and tie and dress to the nines,” Money said. “Wanted a cigar that encapsulated that and I think we crushed it.” Money added that the cigar’s name is also tied to the number nine, which represents luck, fortune and prosperity, “something I want with every release.”

The Nines will debut on Sept. 7 at a launch event hosted by Underground Cigar Shop in Fort Worth, Texas, and will ship to other retailers on Sept. 9.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, the G-League's Valley Suns, and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
