2. Romeo y Julieta Bed of Roses Humidor

Altadis U.S.A. kicked off 2022 by releasing this impressive humidor at the 2022 Tobacco Plus Expo (TPE) trade show. The release wasn’t just a humidor though, as inside was a new 7 1/2 x 50 Nicaraguan puro that uses tobaccos from the Plasencia family farms, highlighted by a habano-seed wrapper.

Over time, I’ve learned to temper the excitement that comes with press releases about products such as this, as until I actually see the product, a lot of details can be hidden in selectively chosen and edited photos. But seeing the Bed of Roses humidor in person confirmed that this was a well-made release.

Behind the locking door, the 24 cigars lie in individually carved slots spread across the three trays in the upper half of the humidor, while a digital display shows the relevant information as to the ambient conditions and a trio of drawers make up the bottom half of the humidor.

Standing at 20 inches tall and measuring 12 inches wide and 12 inches deep, this is a significant humidor but not one that will necessarily dominate a room with its size, though its rich red color will certainly draw attention. A seemingly quite functional unit that makes for a beautiful display piece honoring a brand with a rich history led to the Romeo y Julieta Bed of Roses Humidor scoring so highly this year. — Patrick Lagreid.
